Multiplayer Mission

The aim of this page is to provides multiplayer games different from thoses usually played on the internet, hoping to give a renewed interest in the game. I hope to post missions on a more or less regular basis, depending on the reaction of the participants.

The principles:

Each participant will have to download the planes for the particular mission: the airplanes to use will be downloadable from this site (see the download section). Everyone must have theses aircrafts because the game will be played with resized airplanes, and everyone must share the same airplanes to be able to see the opponents correctly (This means you'll have to download and install both the plane you'll fly, and also the planes flown by your team mates and by the opponents.)

First, the mission will be organized beforehand: participants will have to register first, then will be send a briefing by E-mail, depending on which side they choose to play (Germans or Allies). Four teams of four pilots will be created, two for each side. Each squadron will be able to share their E-mail so they can devise a strategy before the game (like selecting a leader, deciding flying in formation, how much fuel to use, devising a flight plan...). Everyone will be free to choose his partners for creating a squadron (If you've friends you're accustommed to fly with, don't hesitate to organize everything together). The two squadrons on each side can also devise a common strategy to make a more potent force.

When the game is launched, everyone will start at a predetermined place (namely "starting position"), somewhere halfway between each home-base.

Each squadron form up, then head to their assigned airfield where they land. Choosing the right amount of fuel before the game start will be crucial, because you'll spend some of it to rejoin your home airfield, before taking-off to execute the mission.

When every team has landed, the game can start: every squadron take-off and proceed according to their agreed upon flight plan, looking for ennemy fighters. Each pilot using Roger-Wilco will share the same channel as his team mates.

When an air battle take place, shot-down pilots who crashed or bailed-out will reappear at the "starting position". They will not participate during the rest of the battle, going to the ready room, so as not to interfere with the game.

This way, the goal of the player will first be to survive, rather than destroying as many ennemy fighters as possible, disregarding his own safety. Damaged planes will have to be nursed back to base, either to bail-out over friendly territory, or better to attemp a landing, either a good one or a belly landing. Team work will be more important to protect each others either in combat, or by escorting damaged planes back to base. Each downed pilot will have to indicate his bailing-out position on the action report to give the proof that he had time to evacuate the plane, indicating his survival.

When the combat is finished, the surviving planes have to come back to their respective base, or the nearest one, depending on the condition of the airplane (damage suffered or lack of fuel). When every survivor has landed or bailed out over friendly territory, the game is finished.

Later, each pilot will fill an action report by E-mail, describing what he did and what he saw, relating his combat in detail from his own personnal point of view, and any victory he scored.

The results of this debriefing will be published on this site to allow every participant to know the result of the combat, even the individual engagements he didn't participate in.

First Horrido! Multiplayer mission

Adlertag

This mission was played online on July, Sunday 2nd 2000

The first multiplayer mission took place in July 1940, during the Battle of Britain.

The Germans are launching fighter sweeps over the coast of England to challenge the British fighters to battle, and thus try to wear the defensive potential of the RAF. The British are on readiness on their forward airfields along the channel coast, waiting for the Chain Home radar stations to report incoming raids.

Read the "after action report" here

Horrido! Multiplayer mission #2

Chain Home radar station

Note that for this mission, you'll need to download and install "CFO weather" add-on, so that everyone can start from his own airfield right from the beginning. It will also allow to fly in cloudy weather. (You can get this add-on from Bill Potvin's site)

This is another mission taking place during the Battle of Britain. The British pilots will have to intercept an incoming raid. Juging by the small force involved, it is a reconaissance mission. The Germans must get back to France with the pictures of the next day target for the Kampfgeschwadern.

Look for the pilot positions still available here

To enlist for the mission send an E-mail at horrido@free.fr , state the position you want to occupy and download all the aircraft needed for the mission here (for thoses who participated to the first mission Adlertag, you'll need only the Bf-110, because you already have the other planes).

You'll be allowed to fly only the requested planes.

Once you've registered, you'll receive an E-mail with the briefing for your mission in a few days.
